PERFORMANCE + OLYMPIC SCREENING
A journey to the iconic through the prism of competitive figure skating — from the creators of the Thalia Award-winning production Black Dress.
A solo performance by Becka McFadden inspired by her lifelong obsession with figure skating and her brief competitive career. Iconic Program draws on the structure of the sport — its archetypes, narratives, and competitive formats — and invites the audience to embrace failure as liberation. A celebration of a beautiful yet terrifying sport that shapes the body, mind, and identity.
Expect big emotions, deep grooves, and soft knees. There is no ice, but we skate anyway.
The Night’s Second Program:
Immediately following the performance, join us for a collective screening of the Women’s Free Skate from the Winter Olympics, featuring informal commentary and shared viewing. A fusion of performance art and elite sport in one exceptional evening.
Despite a good dose of humor, the work has an almost therapeutic dimension. Becka McFadden unravels a knot of conflicting thoughts and feelings right on stage to relive them, process them, and find a cure for her trauma. This, in her words, became the recent—and after a long time, public—skate she performed for her own sheer joy. She performs this imperfect, yet all the more liberating figure skating choreography on stage at the end. And it is truly an iconic skate, which through its energy and authenticity inspires a healthy relationship with one’s own flaws and helps close burdensome chapters of life.
