Ve spolupráci s hlavním partnerem projektu Kaunas 2022 (LT), partnery Intercommunale Leidal (B) a Institutem Kulturní strategie (UA), oznamujeme otevřenou výzvu na rezidence MODERNISM FOR THE FUTURE 360 / 365.

Hnutí modernismu je jedním z nejsilnějších kulturních příběhů současnosti, spojující různé evropské regiony. Pro nás stále představuje nerealizované příležitosti pro mezikulturní dialog, kulturní identitu a rozvoj cestovního ruchu. Mnoho dnešních modernistických objektů v Evropě stojí na „křižovatce“ kde je nutné učinit krok, ať už kvůli zhoršení, zanedbání nebo skrze další faktory. Projekt MODERNISM FOR THE FUTURE 360 / 365 [MoFu 360/365] řeší výzvy ochrany globálního modernistického dědictví.

Cílem projektu a výstupem rezidencí je:
posílit narativ evropského modernistického dědictví, schopnost reflektovat její současný význam pro evropskou a globální společnost prostřednictvím umělecké interpretace a výsledné realizace zaměřené na konkrétní místo.
Hledáme umělce-výzkumníky, jejichž umělecké projekty budou na základě interpretace kulturního dědictví podporovat celostní přístup k udržitelnosti a podporovat otázku významu modernistického dědictví pro naše a budoucí generace.

Jazyk výzvy: angličtina 

The open call is open to all art disciplines (visual arts, performing arts, media art, photography, literature…). Artists may apply for several residencies, but should send a separate form for each application.

The aim of the residents’ artists is to carry out artistic research of one modernist building (Brno, Kortrijk, Kaunas) of their choice, to involve the local community, heritage owners, experts, employees working in the field of cultural heritage and last but not least the general public. Through their work, they will try to develop a diverse interpretation and discussion through the accompanying program and the project itself.

Artists choosing an international residency in Kaunas (Lithuania) or Kortrijk (Belgium):
• develop a work inspired by the Ninth Fort Memorial (Kaunas) or the Hardware Store by Huib Hoste (Kortrijk);
• should practice English on a sufficient level to engage with owners /users on their work;
• produce their artistic research between 1st May and 30th July 2021, on site, for at least 15 days;
• agree to end their artistic residency by a screening /exhibition in the chosen city.

Artists choosing a local residency in Brno:
• develop the work inspired by the one of the private modernist house in Brno of your choice;
• produce their artistic research between 1st February and 30th April 2021;
• are available during the same period for a local screening / performance /exhibition (depending on the artistic discipline);
• due to COVID measures, we facilitate access to the modernist building and a local screening of the work, but cannot provide an atelier or accommodation during the residency period.

From the open call, the expert jury will select 4 art projects, the authors of which will take part in minimum 15 days residences at the place of their selection. The application forms will be judged by an international jury, so the form must be in English, even if you are applying to a local residence in Brno.

The organisation provides an artistic fee for each artistic project of 3000 €, travel expenses + costs for accommodation, diets, promotion and consultations with experts / institutions, for their creation they are provided with technical and technological background. The results of their work – art projects, will be presented at the international exhibition in January 2022 at the opening of the event Kaunas Capital of Culture 2022, which promises attendance of more than 80,000 visitors and will last until March 2022. which will be presented as part of the final presentation of the exhibition.
